A custom epoxy table is made to your size, wood and color choices, which is a big part of its appeal. Because each piece is handmade, a little planning up front makes sure you get exactly what you pictured.
- Decide size, shape and use (dining, coffee, desk, counter) first.
- Ask to see the actual slab or photos of it before the pour.
- Get lead time, delivery, finish and care details in writing.
1. Size and use
Measure the space and decide how the table will be used. Dining tables need room for chairs; coffee tables should be about the height of your sofa seat. Our size guide has seating and clearance numbers.
2. Wood
- Which species? Walnut, maple, oak and others each look different (see choosing wood for a river table).
- Will you see the actual slab before it’s used?
- Was the wood properly dried, and how?
3. Resin color and style
- Clear, tinted, opaque, or with metallic or pearl pigments?
- Ask for photos of similar past pieces in the color you want.
- How wide will the river be, and will it run full length?
4. Finish
Ask what top finish is used (for example a polished epoxy surface, a hardwax oil, or a polyurethane topcoat) and whether it’s matte, satin or gloss. The finish affects feel, shine and how scratches show.
5. Base and legs
Steel, wood or a pedestal base? Make sure the base matches the table’s weight and leaves legroom for chairs.
6. Lead time and process
Deep resin pours need time to cure before flattening, sanding and finishing, so custom tables take weeks, not days. Ask for an estimated completion date and whether you’ll get progress photos.
7. Price, deposit and delivery
- What’s included in the price (base, finish, delivery)?
- Deposit amount and when the balance is due.
- Delivery or pickup, and whether white-glove setup is available. Epoxy tables are heavy.
8. Care and warranty
Ask for written care instructions (see how to care for an epoxy table) and what’s covered if there’s a defect. Understanding what affects the price will also help you compare quotes fairly.
